Chinese Republic and of His Majesty the King had been honoured

the Civil Governor of Kuangtung proposed my health and in the

course of his remarks referred to the very cordial relations

which existed between His Government and the Government of

Hongkong. I replied in suitable terms and invited the guests

to drink to the future prosperity of Kuangtung and of China,

The cordiality displayed in this short

intercourse with the high officials of the Province struck both

Mr. Jamieson and myself and I consider that it is no small

tribute to Mr. Jamieson's tact that he has succeeded in establish-

ing such friendly relations with a man like Luk Wing Ting who was

one of the leaders in the recent rebellion.
